My Bike Ride

Getting a check up on Day 1 of the challenge.
I decided to kick off my challenge by going in and getting a check up with my doctor. She drew blood to get some baseline numbers so we could compare sugar levels, cholesterol, etc.

Treadmill Test
I went and had a stress test on my heart to make sure I could handle all the cardio that I would be doing by getting into the cycling world. This is just a quick excerpt but in the film you'll see how big I really am when they put the electrode patches on my chest.

Dusting off the bike
After I went and did the cardiology treadmill test, I went back to my house with my camera guy and had him film me getting my bike out. The tires were flat, the seat was old and painful, and the handlebars looked kind of funky. I hadn't been on this bike in 10 years!

100 Days into the challenge
Here is a fun little video to celebrate the 100th day of the challenge. I was just starting to ride my bike to work. There's also some fun footage that was shot of my daughter on her tag-a-long being pulled behind me...except she seems to be "pushing" me.

An embarrassing story
This is a true and embarrassing story. I had just started riding my bike, and one morning...

Surprise Call to Japan
We called my mother-in-law in Japan on her birthday to surprise her by telling her we're coming to Japan in August (for bike ride challenge). We were also calling to invite my father-in-law to climb Mount Fuji with me. Guess what happened?
Don't worry. we called later and caught the whole thing on video. Did my 71-year old father-in-law accept the challenge? Find out in the film coming out in Fall of 2013. (Don't you hate that?!) |

Hiking to Box Elder Peak
My brother and I hiked to Box Elder Peak one Saturday. It took 16 hours round trip, but was worth it. Here is video just as I got to the summit. What a feeling of exhilaration! Ask me sometime about the hike back down the mountain...that's a whole 'nother story!
