A few weeks before I started
February 14, 2012
What better way to spend Valentines day than in Disneyland with a cob of corn. This was literally a few weeks before I began my challenge. I remember that I had been planning my kick-off date and was anxious to get going.
First time on bike
March 13, 2012
2 weeks after I started my challenge, I got on my bike for the first time in a decade!
Riding up the big hill
One of many bike rides. This is at the top of a big 9-13% grade hill. I look forward to getting up this thing in one ride without having to rest. It's steep.

I broke my wrist while ice skating! It's not a serious break. In a cast for 6 weeks or so.
My fattest picture
This was taken back in 2010. The heaviest I ever remember weighing at my doctor's office was 373lbs! Gee, I was probably close to that in this picture.
5 months into the challenge
July 18, 2012
I am taking a picture every few months of my progress. This is about the 5 month mark on my journey.
I have hit a few walls due to motivation and nutrition issues. But that is part of the process. I have to admit that despite the ups and downs, I am looking and feeling much better than I did back in 2010! I think I weighed in at 309lbs in this picture!
A Set Back Along the Way
Ever try showering or putting on your clothes with one hand? At least it wasn't my right (primary) hand!
At the top of Emigration Canyon, a 1500' climb starting from my house in Salt Lake City.
On August 3rd, three weeks before climbing Mount Fuji, I did a test hike up Box Elder Peak in Alpine, Utah. Elevation at the top is 11.101'. The elevation of Mount Fuji is 12,388'. That's beautiful Mount Timpanogos in the background.
